He moved to Rochester\, NY at the age of 7 along with his family. Upon graduating high school he enrolled in the US Marine early entry program. In September of 2010 Javier was deployed on his 2nd tour to Afghanistan and 4th total in his 9 years as a Marine. He achieved a rank of Staff Sergeant and Platoon Leader. On November 16\, 2010 Javier was killed by an IED roadside bomb while on foot patrol in an Afghanistan province. Javier represents all of the fallen soldiers who have paid the ultimate sacrifice defending our Freedom. Javier 26\, was survived by his wife Veronica and three children\, Alyssa\, Andrew\, and Anthony. \nCOURSE INFORMATION\nThe SSGT Javier Ortiz Memorial 5K Race and Fitness Walk is sanctioned by USA Track and Field (USATF# NY12901KL). The race will start and finish at Trout Pond . DESCRIPTION:The Stache Dash is 5K held in Canandaigua\, NY each year on Father’s Day Weekend to support the Blue Foundation. The Blue Foundation is a local charity that focuses on helping men and their families in the Finger Lakes region suffering from health issues.  You can learn more about the Blue Foundation by visiting https://bluefoundationny.org \nWHEN:  June 17\, 2023  \nTIME:  5:00pm Registration & Packet Pickup\n6:00pm Race Start \nWHAT:  A super fun\, chill 5K with 2 aid stations featuring beautiful Canandaigua Lake. \nCOST:  $35 \nWHAT YOU GET:\n-an amazing race with a great course and chill vibe\n–our famous tri-blend race shirt\n-food after the race from Amiel’s Subs\n-live music\n-the satisfaction of helping a great local cause \n\n\n\n\n\n\nPartnerships\n\n\n\n\n\nThis year we are partnering with Rochester Accessible Adventures as our primary benefactor. For the first time ever this timed 5k event will include an inclusive wheeled division. To learn more about the RROY Series or to register\, visit https://rochesterrunneroftheyear.org/\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCourse Description & Map\n\nThis beautiful course is flat & fast!  The course features beautiful Canandaigua Lake and offers scenic views throughout! \n\nSTART/FINISH LINE:  Canandaigua CrossFit (699 South Main Street\, Canandaigua)\nYou’ll run on a combination of sidewalk\, gravel path and limited road sections.\nThe course is INCLUSIVE (accessible to all athletes)\nThere is one aid station on the course that you’ll visit TWICE during your run (first at approximately 1 mile and again at approximately 2 miles).\nWe limited road crossings as much as possible\, and volunteers will be posted at all crossings to assist runners.
