He moved to Rochester\, NY at the age of 7 along with his family. Upon graduating high school he enrolled in the US Marine early entry program. In September of 2010 Javier was deployed on his 2nd tour to Afghanistan and 4th total in his 9 years as a Marine. He achieved a rank of Staff Sergeant and Platoon Leader. On November 16\, 2010 Javier was killed by an IED roadside bomb while on foot patrol in an Afghanistan province. Javier represents all of the fallen soldiers who have paid the ultimate sacrifice defending our Freedom. Javier 26\, was survived by his wife Veronica and three children\, Alyssa\, Andrew\, and Anthony. \nCOURSE INFORMATION\nThe SSGT Javier Ortiz Memorial 5K Race and Fitness Walk is sanctioned by USA Track and Field (USATF# NY12901KL). SUMMARY:RH Kicking Hunger 5K Run/Walk
DESCRIPTION:REGISTER\n2025 RACE PACKET PICK UP IS FRIDAY\, JUNE 6TH FROM 3:00 – 8:00 PM AT THE HENRIETTA RECREATION CENTER ON CALKINS ROAD (right next to Veterans Memorial Park). \nThe Rush-Henrietta Athletic Association\, in conjunction with the Rush-Henrietta Area Food Terminal (RHAFT) and the Town of Henrietta Recreation Department\, invite you to participate in the 8th annual Rush-Henrietta Kicking Hunger 5K in Henrietta\, NY. The 2025 race will provide participants with two options – a live event on Saturday\, June 7th (8 am start) or a virtual event the weekend of Friday\, June 6th to Sunday\, June 8th.  \nThe purpose of this race will continue to focus on bringing awareness and providing tangible solutions to the issue of hunger in our community\, as well as continuing the tradition of promoting exercise and family-centered events in our town. Since 2018\, the race has raised over $45\,000 and also allowed for RHAFT to collect hundreds of non-perishable food items. Race proceeds have directly impacted our local community by helping to fund both the Rush-Henrietta Central School District (RHCSD) Kicking Hunger Summer Food Program and BackPack Program\, as well as providing support for community food and student-centered programs through both RHAFT and the Town of Henrietta. In 2020 and 2021\, the Kicking Hunger Committee distributed more than 1\,800 bags of food to local families through the RHCSD BackPack Program. The race has also allowed for the opening of the Rush-Henrietta School Food Pantry in the Good Shepherd Building on East Henrietta Road. This community resource\, which has been opened since November 2020\, continues to support local families in need. \n  \nPRICING: $25 (all participants) \n  \nIF REGISTERING AFTER MAY 24TH\, A LIMITED SELECTION OF T-SHIRTS WILL BE AVAILABLE AT PACKET PICK-UP AND ON RACE MORNING (as long as supplies last) \n  \nPARTICIPANTS MUST BE PRESENT AT THE RACE RAFFLE TO CLAIM PRIZES. Focusing on quality of life rather than quantity of time\, Sunset House supports the physical\, emotional and spiritual needs of its residents\, allowing them to maintain control during an important time of transition. Please reach out to the event organizer with questions* \nREGISTER \nWolfpack Multisport is hosting a 3.17 mile and half marathon running event to honor Wayne A. Burlison. The race has a scheduled start time of 10:00 am. A portion of the proceeds from this event will be contributed to the Wayne A. Burlison Memorial Scholarship\, established in 2014 by Wayne’s wife and son. It is supported by Albion School employees\, various musical groups that Wayne was involved in and family and friends. \nThe race path takes the runners into the Mt. Albion Cemetery\, with rolling terrain and beautiful scenery.  The historic Mt. Albion Cemetery is a rural cemetery established in the 1840s on a glacial drumlin (landforms composed primarily of glacial till).  In 1976 it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places as a historic district.  As you run\, you will pass Wayne’s site\, energetic volunteers to cheer you on\, and an amply supplied water station. \nIf you are not up for a run\, we would still love to have you join us for the walk on our 3.17 mile course. \nCome join us and break up the cabin fever we all get during the long winter months and let’s have some fun! \nAll finishers will receive a medal!

DESCRIPTION:LOCATION: Both the 5K and the 1-mile Fun Run start and end behind Victor’s Town Hall\, 85 East Main Street Victor\, New York 14564. \nTIME: Both races will kick off at approximately 9:15 a.m on Thanksgiving morning! It is super helpful if packets can be picked up on Wednesday (the night before the race) from 5:00-7:00 p.m.  at the Victor Town Hall.  If you can’t make it\, no worries\, the remaining packets will be available on Thanksgiving starting at 7:00 a.m. at the Victor Town Hall. \nPRICING:  $10 children and teens; $20 adults (20 years old and up). \nT-SHIRTS: Custom Turkey Trot shirts are available for advance purchase\, but are not included in the registration price. SUMMARY:Race with Grace 5K and 10K
DESCRIPTION:The Race with Grace 10K \nWhy RwG 3.0?The Race with Grace (RwG) 10K was established in 1991 as an outgrowth of the participation of several men in the Spencerport Canal Days races during the mid-1980’s.  It had a two-fold purpose\, the more important one being a community outreach.  Secondarily\, it was play on the current Pastor’s name\, George Grace\, who was a runner.\nIn our inaugural year we had 185 registrants and 171 finishers.  Our attendance peaked in 2015 when we celebrated our silver anniversary race with 1245 registrants and 1121 finishers.  Over the race’s 31-year existence\, a total of approximately 5\,000 individuals have participated.  Five men remain who have finished every single RwG and ran virtually in 2020.  They are Stan Cipira\, Bob Dyjak\, Dave O’Leary\, Ric Perry and Doug Ralph.\nThe race established itself as one of the best races in western NY.  It has consistently been named one of NY’s finest races by New England Runner magazine.  In addition\, it has been recognized as one of the cornerstone races in the Rochester Runner of the Year series.  All proceeds\, once race expenses are deducted\, go to support C.U.R.E. Childhood Cancer Association.\nWith the current race director stepping down due to work and family obligations\, no clear choice for a successor\, the race’s future appeared to be at crossroads. Thankfully\, as the “door” on the race was quickly closing\, the Rochester Running Company and Lakeshore Community Church agreed to manage and host this year’s race. \nAbout Lakeshore Community Church:\nFounded in 1995 by Vince and Sue DiPaola\, Lakeshore Community Church exists to help people discover and develop a growing relationship with Jesus. It’s a place where you can be real\, strengthen your relationships\, and make an impact in our world. When you’re ready\, check out Lakeshore for yourself; Sundays at 9 and 11am\, in person and online at live.lakeshorechurch.org. \nQuick Race info:\nThe entry fee includes a long-sleeved tech shirt.
