SUMMARY:12th Annual Scare Brain Cancer Away 5K Run/Walk and 1.5 Mile Walk - VIRTUAL
DESCRIPTION:COVID-19 might have turned our world upside-down\, but it can’t scare us away from raising money for the Wilmot Cancer Institute’s Patient Needs Fund. So we’re doing a virtual event in 2020! You and your team will be able to dress up and run or walk a 5K or 1.5 mile route ON YOUR OWN. \nWe will be offering our long sleeve t-shirt and hope to have additional goodies that will be announced soon! \nCutoff to guarantee a shirt on race day is October 3.  All others will be mailed out a few weeks after race day. \nPacket pickup for the event will be Thursday and Friday October 22 and 23rd at Medved Running and Walking Outfitters. \nRunners can run their race anytime between October 24 and Halloween! Submit your time online here at this site and signup for notifications to make submitting your time a breeze. \nThe Patient Needs Fund is a donation-based fund for patients under cancer treatment at the Wilmot Cancer Institute. Assistance can be provided to patients in the form of gift cards to local gas\, grocery\, and general merchandise stores such as Kwik Fill\, Wegmans\, and Target. Often patients need money for gas as many are driving from outside or on the outskirts of Monroe County for treatment daily or weekly. Target and Wegmans gift cards are typically used for food or everyday needs of patients. The amount provided is based upon the patient’s needs; as many patients as possible can be assisted with a donation to this unique fund. This is the power of the Patient Needs Fund; patients are able to focus more on their treatment and fighting cancer\, and not on the financial burden that so many of us have.

We highly recommend a Buff or something that can be easily pulled down once you’re running\, so you’ll have it on you at the finish as well. \nMore detailed starting procedures will be finalized once we are closer to the date of the event. \n\n\n\n\n\nAID STATIONS\n\nThere will be two aid stations on the course\, one in the northbound direction and one in the southbound direction\, near Willow Bay Park. Each aid station will consist of 2 tables\, with each table manned by 1-2 volunteers. There will be 6ft of space in between each table in order to minimize crowding of runners attempting to access the provided water bottles. Volunteers will not be handing anything to the runners\, but will simply be there to assist with keeping the tables stocked as well as assisting with garbage collection. \n\n\n\n\n\nBIB PICKUP\n\nWe intend to host bib pickup the day prior to the race and race morning. Locations and times are TBD. \n\n\nDEFERRALS\, TRANSFERS\, AND REFUNDS\n\nThere will be no deferrals as we have no idea if we plan to hold this event in 2022 😂 \nTransfers are not allowed. \nRefunds: we will not be processing payment information until 10 weeks prior to the event date (02/22/2021). If we need to cancel between that date and 2 weeks prior to the event\, we will fully refund your registration fee minus the processing charge. If we need to cancel within 2 weeks of the event date\, we will refund 75% of your registration fee minus the processing charge. We hope to avoid this situation at all costs. \n\n\n\n\n\nTIME LIMIT AND AWARDS\n\nTime Limit \nThe official time limit for the race is 5:00 (11:26/mi). We will not sweep any runners from the course\, but please be aware if you are finishing in over 5 hours\, you may not receive an official finish time or aid on course after the 5 hour mark. The timing company and the aid stations will begin breakdown at 12pm. \nAwards \nThere will be finisher medals for all race finishers\, as well as prizes for the top 3 male and female finishers (based on chip time). Finisher medals will be available at the finish; prizes will be mailed out after the race.

SUMMARY:Rush-Henrietta Kicking Hunger 5K Run/Walk
DESCRIPTION:The Rush-Henrietta Athletic Association\, in conjunction with the Rush-Henrietta Area Food Terminal (RHAFT) and the Town of Henrietta Recreation Department\, invite you to participate in the 4th annual Rush-Henrietta Kicking Hunger 5K in Henrietta\, NY. \nThe 2021 race will provide participants with two options – a live event on Saturday\, June 5th (8 am start) or a virtual event the weekend of Friday\, June 4th to Sunday\, June 6th. \nThe purpose of this race will continue to focus on bringing awareness and providing tangible solutions to the issue of hunger in our community\, as well as continuing the tradition of promoting exercise and family-centered events in our town. The 2018\, 2019\, and 2020 races raised $3\,300\, $5\,500\, and $7\,000 respectively\, and also allowed for RHAFT to collect hundreds of non-perishable food items. Race proceeds have directly impacted our local community by helping to fund the 2018 Rush-Henrietta Central School District (RHCSD) Kicking Hunger Summer Food Program\, as well as providing support for community food and student-centered programs through both RHAFT and the RHCSD during the 2019 summer months. Current proceeds are being used to support the RHCSD Backpack Program which provides food to local families on a weekly basis. 2020 race proceeds are currently being used to fund the establishment and future maintenance of the Kicking Hunger Food Pantry in the Good Shepherd Building on East Henrietta Road.

If you do all three races\, but do not register for the series\, we cannot guarantee you will get the gift due to administrative logistics of tracking participants\, but we will try. \nWhen you register for the series\, you won’t be able to pick shirt options for each race. Instead\, when it’s closer to the race time\, the RD will transfer you to each individual race. Then you’ll be able to manage your registration. \nOther\nYou might have surmised there is an emphasis on food! I grew up hungry until I could earn money myself to buy food\, and while my company\, Obatron Fitness\, isn’t a non-profit\, each race will include three charitable components: 1) fundraising drive via registration for each host town’s food program for those in need; 2) a food drive for the same organization on race day; and 3) a portion of proceeds after expenses are covered will be donated to the organization. \nTraining Also Available\nSee menu for training options. \nDiscount Offers & Referrals\nEntering the series rather than individual races gets you pricing equal to or less than the total of the individual race fees (depending upon when you register)\, a lower RunSignUp fee than the sum of the fees when registering separately\, and a series gift. The training offered through the series registration page is at a much reduced price including bonus workouts not normally offered with Obatron Fitness group training. If you are a member of GRTC or Obatron Fitness\, you get a discount at checkout for that. Additionally\, you may earn back some of your registration by having other racers use your personal referral link\, generated after you register. See the “Referrals” section for more information. \nAwards and Swag\nWe’re known for our informal awards due to the nature of virtual events. You are encouraged to enter your time to establish a race history with us and for the fun of it. Besides\, you never know what may happen as the series gets underway! There will be race shirts\, medals\, goodies\, and Earned Extras. Plus\, the more sponsors and participants we get\, the more goodies we can put in your packet. \nGender Designations \nWe recognize there are those who would rather not pick male or female when asked to choose. Unfortunately\, we’ve not seen a way to provide other options within that field’s parameters. As such\, we ask your understanding that we are limited by the nature of registration tools and finite resources rather than disregarding anyone’s preferences in how they are addressed or define themselves. \nAdditional Details \nWe will post additional details as they occur. Any changes will be updated here\, on the Obatron Fitness Facebook page\, in our Facebook group\, and communicated through RunSignUp messaging.
