DESCRIPTION:Our 5K is in remembrance of Daniel Myslivecek\, who lost his battle with Melanoma at the age of 16. A friend of Daniel’s organized the first 5K in 2005 to help the family with medical costs. Daniel ran in that first race and died 4 months later from his illness. The 5K has continued with the support of our community and each year the proceeds are given to a family or organization that helps children with a life-threatening illness while heightening Melanoma awareness. \nThe course in 2018 will be a little different! We will begin on the driveway behind the middle school and finish near the maintenance garage. The course will be extended down Westside Drive as we will not be using the track. SUMMARY:Ninth Annual Scare Brain Cancer Away 5K Run/Walk
DESCRIPTION:This is a fast flat course through the village of East Rochester. It is very well marked with 2 water stops and tons of support from the residents of the village. \nThis race is a run/walk with funds going to an individual suffering from brain cancer. Tonya Cyrkin will be this year’s recipient. Tonya is the wife of Josh and mother of Alex and 9th grader Haylie. Diagnosed in 2012 with a glioblastoma\, Tonya’s brain cancer has taken a different path\, that being to attack her spine. Doctors had been at a loss as to how to proceed in treating her cancer as chemo and radiation had not been successful. The tumor on her spine had continued to grow and so it was decided that the best approach would be to remove part of her spine\, which was done on October 6\, 2016. Tonya is working with OT and PT specialists and because of her determination to become more independent and have a somewhat normal life as a family\, she is known as a “rock star”. DESCRIPTION:The 10th Annual Ovarian & Gynecologic 5k Race/Walk at Monroe Community College\, is a USTAF Registered course. The event is officially timed by PCR Timing\, water stations are on the course. There will be post-race awards\, refreshments and fun for all! \nEvery woman is at risk for developing a gynecologic cancer. It is estimated that there will be about 98\,280 new cases diagnosed and approximately 30\,440 deaths from gynecologic cancers in the United States during 2015 (American Cancer Society).Help us draw attention to Gynecologic Cancers – ovarian\, cervical\, uterine\, vaginal\, and vulvar\, which pose significant threats to women’s health. Race proceeds go to Cancer Wellness Connections\, a Rochester area non-profit which provides free diversionary activities to more than 15\,000 people annually who are receiving outpatient chemotherapy treatment at Rochester area hospitals. Activities include personal training\, Reiki therapy\, yoga and meditation\, art therapy\, manicures\, crafts\, games and snacks. DESCRIPTION:Thousands of people are diagnosed with cancer in our region every year and it can leave us feeling powerless. But there is something you can do to help cancer patients and survivors locally. \nBack for its fifth year\, the Wilmot Warrior Walk takes place Saturday\, Sept. 10 and aims to celebrate cancer survivorship while raising funds for cancer research at Wilmot Cancer Institute and Wilmot’s Judy DiMarzo Cancer Survivorship Program. Happening at the Highland Park Bowl\, the event features a certified 10K\, 5K and 1-mile walk through Rochester. Routes take participants toward downtown Rochester and through scenic areas along the Genesee River. \nWe’re planning plenty of other fun\, too! In addition to your run or walk\, we hope you’ll spend time with us to enjoy food trucks\, the survivorship tent\, bounce houses\, live music\, and more. Details on attractions will be available as the event gets closer\, but in the meantime\, here are some exciting changes we have in store for 2017: \n\nImproved parking! DESCRIPTION:Start is located at the Trout Pond of Letchworth Park.  The scenic flat route proceeds along the park road adjacent to the Genesee River Gorge\, before turning into a wooded back road leading to the finish line at Trailside Lodge. \nPost race party: light refreshments prepared by chefs at the Glen Iris Inn includes pastries\, fruit and beverage.
