Hope Ave\nOR\nRace morning 7:30a – 8:45a at the School \n2023 Scare Brain Cancer Away Recipient:\nAbby McCarthy \nMost of us know Abby as the through-hiking and ultra running queen\, with a side hustle goal of qualifying for the Boston Marathon. She finds things like Vol. State 500k “fun” – AKA traversing Tennessee in  4 days\, 21 hrs and 8 minutes for a total of 313 miles. She’s also known for completing the thru-hike of the Appalachian Trail In 2008. And 10 years later tackling the thru-hike of the PCT (in 2018). \nOn the 15th of October 2022\, Abby had a seizure while she was sleeping. She thought this was a first time occurrence…..Doctors here in Rochester\, after hearing about a string of nightmares she had been having over the summer\, determined that they were not nightmares but tiny seizures in her temporal lobe. — A resulting MRI showed two masses\, one being more concerning than the other. They told her that the mass on the left was cancerous and the cause of the seizures\, but something they could confidently cut out. \nAbby had surgery on the 29th of November and spent nearly 3 weeks in Boston recovering while going to physical therapy\, occupational therapy and speech therapy. On December 18\, 2022 she was released and planned to continue the physical therapy in Rochester. She will also be treated with chemotherapy after 6 weeks of radiation which started early in March.\nAbby has stayed positive and optimistic\, going for walks and runs between treatments. She even ran a 35 hour race during her first week of Radiation – managing 113 miles! She is determined to get the most out of everyday – even through the bad days – and roast the tumor to the ground. Abby brings joy to everything she does and everyone she spends time with. Money raised will go to Abby to help pay medical bills.

The race is part of the Month of October “Halloweenathon” going on all Month long at the Town of Hamlin. **We encourage runners to wear costumes!** SHIRT INCLUDED WITH REGISTRATION \nThe Haunted Walk. Join us to walk 1.5 miles through the park on our interpretation of a Haunted Hayride on foot. You will leave from the same location as the 5K Run\, and walk throughout the park around the Haunted portion of the course. DESCRIPTION:Run\, Walk or Soar with us for the 3rd annual Hopson 5K- Give Cancer the Bird. Located in the Hamlet of Honeoye\, you will experience beautiful fall foliage throughout the entire course without the dangers of vehicle traffic. You may have to dodge a few rabbits or squirrels or yield to a fairy or two in Hopson’s Forest! The majority of the course is a combination of wide grassy trails through WoodsEdge Retreat and the established trails through Sandy Bottom Park. If we’re lucky\, our pair of resident Bald Eagles will guide the way. This years beneficiary will be Embrace Your Sisters. EYS provides emergency financial support for people with breast cancer in our local area. To learn more about their efforts\, please visit them at https://www.embraceyoursisters.org Event timed by RobinHood Racing. \nPost race event at Birdhouse Brewery located across the street from the start /finish line. Post race event to include live music\, a complementary pint of Birdhouse beer and a good time with friends and family. Our friends from Dainty Donuts will be back this year! Stay tuned\, we may add more rain-deer games to the post race event as we get closer. \nAWARDS\nAwards will be presented to the 1st place overall female & male finishers\, 1st place overall masters male & female and “middle of the flock” \nEvery finisher will receive a really cool\, stainless steel\, locally produced\, “functional” finisher medal. \nRegister by September 27th to guarantee t-shirt. After September 27th\, a limited surplus may be available. \nFor safety reasons strollers and dogs are not allowed on the course. \nWe are also offering a virtual registration option for those of you who physically won’t be able to join us on race day. DESCRIPTION:Come run the best Cross Country races in Upstate NY for Open and Master’s runners. Individual and Club members compete for individual age group prizes and team awards. Members of Upstate NY Clubs compete for Series points\, awards\, and bragging rights. Championship Day is Sunday\, November 12th\, and the Niagara LDR series race is November 5th. \nThese races are for the most experienced runners as well as beginners to the sport of Cross Country running. It’s fun for all and anyone may participate.
