SUMMARY:Wilmot Warrior Walk
DESCRIPTION:Thousands of people are diagnosed with cancer in our region every year and it can leave us feeling powerless. But there is something you can do to help cancer patients and survivors locally. \nBack for its fifth year\, the Wilmot Warrior Walk takes place Saturday\, Sept. 10 and aims to celebrate cancer survivorship while raising funds for cancer research at Wilmot Cancer Institute and Wilmot’s Judy DiMarzo Cancer Survivorship Program. Happening at the Highland Park Bowl\, the event features a certified 10K\, 5K and 1-mile walk through Rochester. Routes take participants toward downtown Rochester and through scenic areas along the Genesee River. \nWe’re planning plenty of other fun\, too! In addition to your run or walk\, we hope you’ll spend time with us to enjoy food trucks\, the survivorship tent\, bounce houses\, live music\, and more. Details on attractions will be available as the event gets closer\, but in the meantime\, here are some exciting changes we have in store for 2017: \n\nImproved parking! We heard participants’ feedback from last year and we’re working to make parking easier for our guests. Stay tuned for details.\nAn improved course and race timing. We acknowledge last year’s 5K route had some issues and we have made this route more concise to avoid confusion this year.\nCancer survivor recognition. We believe all cancer survivors deserve to be acknowledged for their courage and we’ll be doing that at this year’s event.\n\nResults\n\n5k Overall Results\n5k Award Winners\n10k Overall Results\n10k Award Winners

SUMMARY:Beat Brain Cancer 5k
DESCRIPTION:This 5k run/1 mile walk is an event that welcomes all ages and experience levels. We encourage wheelchair participants\, strollers etc. to join us for this fun event. Participants for the walk are encouraged to bring their whole family\, and children under 5 are free! The race begins at East Rochester High School and runs along the roads of the Village of East Rochester and ends back at the High School for awards and refreshments. The proceeds from this event will be donated to a family who is fighting brain cancer. \nAbout the beneficiary\nOn July 12th 2016 Zoey was diagnosed with DIPG. DIPG is a terminal brain cancer impacting children typically ages 3-12 located in their pons\, brain stem. The average life span after diagnosis is 9-12 months until the child passes away. Zoey received a tumor biopsy on July 18th 2016 followed by 30 days of radiation starting August 1st 2016. On October 28th 2016 Zoey and her parents flew to Germany for 7 weeks for an Immunotherapy program. During their stay they also had two consults with doctors in the UK for different treatment plans. \nAfter returning home on December 13th Zoey returned to Germany three more times in January February and March for three days total for treatment. In April 2017 Zoey’s tumor started to grow again and her team of doctors started her on oral panobinostat. Zoey was on this for a total of two months when it was determined her tumor had grown significantly and without drastic measures she would not live more than three weeks. On July 6th 2017 Zoey started 12 days of radiation with infusions of Avastin and Nivolubum\, two different chemotherapy drugs. She continued her infusions and regained her strength\, stamina and spunk. During Thanksgiving 2017 her parents noticed symptoms of progression in Zoey’s body functions. \nOn December 12th 2017 Zoey had an emergency trip to see her doctors and was scheduled for an emergency MRI. It was determined her tumor had grown substantially and had grew outside of her pons. Her parents were told they can choose to radiate again or there was a large possibility that Zoey would not live to see Christmas. On December 19th Zoey started 10 days of radiation and by the time school started on January 2nd she was back to her normal self.\nZoey started Mekinist and Tanfilar\, two new chemotherapy drugs\, the 2nd week of January while still continuing her Avastin infusions. Zoey’s latest MRI in February 20th 2018 show amazing results of shrinkage and her tumor being almost the same if not smaller than at diagnosis. This has been unheard of. Zoey will continue her current oral chemo treatment until approval for a new drug ONC201 is complete. Then she will start that\, hopefully by St Patrick’s Day. \nZoey’s parents have spent approximately $125\,000 in treatment\, travel\, and expenses while caring for Zoey since July 2016. Her life is that of a typical 5-year-old but filled with some awesome doctors\, amazing experiences and so much love. \nResults\n\nOverall Results\nAge Group Results\nAward Winners\nWheelchair Results

DESCRIPTION:This is the fourth annual 5k run and 1 mile walk in memory of Desiree Stockholm who was a Nurse Practitioner at Strong Memorial Hospital.  It is a fast\, flat\, road race through neighborhoods near East Rochester High School. \nThis event is bringing awareness to Brain Cancer. Proceeds from this race will be donated to a local family fighting brain cancer. Packet pick-up will be at MedVed on June 7th\, 2019\, from 3pm to 8pm\, and on race day at East Rochester High School from 7:00am to 8:45am.  Wheelchair division will begin at 8:55am\, runners at 9:00am and walkers at 9:05am. Vivian was diagnosed on April 23rd 2018 after having double vision. Vivian has undergone surgery\, 31 radiation treatments\, and is currently undergoing chemotherapy at the Golisano Children’s Hospital at Strong. Vivian is working with occupational therapy and physical therapy as well as tutoring at home. Due to the location of the tumor\, Vivian still struggles with her balance\, which prevents her from participating in many of the activities she enjoys most. Vivian loves cheerleading and gymnastics and wants to be a dolphin trainer when she grows up. Despite the major obstacles Vivian has overcome\, she still smiles and maintains a happy disposition. \nThe Stoch family has experienced a loss of wages and continues to receive medical bills for treatment. Please join us in supporting Vivian\, her parents Mark and Kelly\, and her little sister Laila in this long and difficult journey against this horrible disease. \nResults\n\nOverall Results\nAge Group Results\nAward Winners

SUMMARY:Wilmot Warrior Walk
DESCRIPTION:In 2012\, Wilmot Cancer Institute held its first Wilmot Warrior Walk to support the newly created Judy DiMarzo Cancer Survivorship Program. The event’s funds now support cancer research at Wilmot\, too. Our purpose is not only to celebrate all cancer survivors but also to remember those we’ve lost and to support local cancer research. \nAs we embark on our eighth year of the Warrior Walk\, we are excited to continue offering our 5K\, 10K and 1- mile walk as well as our post-race survivor celebration. There are many ways to get involved: Run or walk at the event\, participate in a supporting event\, consider volunteering or donate to a participant. \nHowever you decide to engage\, we’re grateful. Your support makes new treatments possible and allows more survivors to have a positive quality of life during and after treatment. Together\, we can find better ways to help all who are impacted by cancer. \nRace is certified! 5k: NY17108KL 10k:NY16123KL \nSchedule of Events \n\n8 a.m. 10K begins\n9:10 a.m. 10K awards at the start/finish line\n9:30 a.m. 5K begins\n10:20 a.m. 5K awards at the start/finish line\n10:30 a.m. Event program and walk warm-up\n11 a.m. 1-mile walk begins (registration ends)\n1 p.m. Post-walk celebration ends
