Arrive through the St. Paul street entrance. \nSeneca Park parking lots will be open and available. Please note that parking is very limited. We encourage you to arrive early by 7:15 a.m. to give plenty of time to park and walk to the lower park and Starting Line. Premier Parking services will be on-site to help guide participants to available parking spots. The entrance to Seneca Park will close promptly at 7:30am and not re-open until after the last person has completed the race. Participants will need to walk to the starting line located at north end of Seneca Park.\n\nPacket Pick Up\nThe race-day packet includes your bib number and any giveaways (t-shirt\, medal) that are included with your registration. Don’t wait until the day of the race to pick up your race materials! Others can get your packet for you\, you just need to provide their name and/or registration confirmation. The event registration will close at 4 p.m. on Saturday\, July 18. DESCRIPTION:  \nTimed Event\nWe’re back and in-person!!  Join us\, Sunday\, July 17\, 2022\, for the first of a three–race series to celebrate the transformation of the Zoo and the opening of the new Welcome Center\, Education Resource Building and Tropics Complex in 2024.  For the first time ever\, we’ll be offering race medals to commemorate this exciting time.  Participate and collect all three! The medals will interlock to create one impressive medal.   \nHow about creating a team and raise additional funds for the Seneca Park Zoo Society?  It’s easy\, AND if you raise $100 in donations\, you’ll receive a Jungle Jog string backpack.  Raise $250 in donations and you’ll receive a long sleeve race shirt!  All funds raised will support our education and conservation efforts here at the Zoo\, in our community\, and around the world.  \nAlso\, this year we want to demonstrate our commitment to our mission of conserving wildlife and wild places by making this a ‘cupless’ race.  We are asking all participants to bring a full bottle of water with them to use during the race.  We will provide one refill station along the 3-mile route and a bottle of water at the finish line.  Participants will enjoy refreshments in the Wegmans Lodge post-race.  \nDon’t forget about the Kids Fun-Run for kids 10yrs and younger!  No cost to participate\, and each runner will receive a Fun-Run medal.  The FunRun will take place after the 5k.  \nThere will also be a ‘virtual’ option to participate as we have done the last couple years in addition to the traditional in-person option. Virtual runners will register and perform their 5k wherever they choose between July 17th – July 30th. Please note virtual participants will not be eligible for race prizes. \nRegistration Info: \n$45 Registration fee – Race\, 2022 Jungle Jog dri-tech shirt and race medal\, custom Jungle Jog bib   \n$35 Registration Fee –  Race\, 2022 Jungle Jog dri-tech shirt\, custom Jungle Jog bib   \nRegistration opens April 1st and closes July 16th. Must be registered by June 1 to guarantee shirt size.  \nPacket pick-up dates:   \n\nFriday\, July 15th at the Seneca Park Zoo 3 – 7pm (new bus loop on east side of parking lot if available) \nSaturday\, July 16th at MedVed using their parking lot from 10am – 2pm  \n\nVirtual participants can have packet mailed for $10 fee.

SUMMARY:SSGT Javier Ortiz Memorial 5k
DESCRIPTION:This is our 8th year. All proceeds benefit \, TAPS & Veterans Outreach Center.  These two organizations assist our veterans and the families of fallen soldiers. \nBio\nJavier Ortiz Rivera was born in Cayey\, PR on September 7\, 1984. He moved to Rochester\, NY at the age of 7 along with his family. Upon graduating high school he enrolled in the US Marine early entry program. In September of 2010 Javier was deployed on his 2nd tour to Afghanistan and 4th total in his 9 years as a Marine. He achieved a rank of Staff Sergeant and Platoon Leader. On November 16\, 2010 Javier was killed by an IED roadside bomb while on foot patrol in an Afghanistan province. Javier represents all of the fallen soldiers who have paid the ultimate sacrifice defending our Freedom. Javier 26\, was survived by his wife Veronica and three children\, Alyssa\, Andrew\, and Anthony. \nCourse Info\nThe SSGT Javier Ortiz Memorial 5K Race and Fitness Walk is sanctioned by USA Track and Field (USATF# NY12901KL). The race will start and finish at Trout Pond .
